The Blues Show with Ted & Scott
On Air Details
Ted Todd
Not counting the Animals, the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, Cream, Savoy Brown and other “blues based” rock and roll bands he listened to growing up, the blues first found Ted Todd in 1971 when a friend brought over the monumental John Lee Hooker album “Endless Boogie.” The passion, the drive, the altered state! The Fort Spokane Brewery had a great Monday Night Blues gig happenin’ in 1989. Yo & de Cats were playin’ the blues. Ted was a regular. As a founding and Board of Director’s member of the Inland Empire Blues Society, Ted has a deep love for the blues. He has hosted many blues shows and events for such luminaries as Susan Tedeschi, Little Charlie & the Nightcats, Tommy Castro, B.B. King, and Buddy Guy. He has M.C.’d for a number of events such as The Sunbanks Blues Festival, The Joseph Bronze, Blues & Brews, The Ritzville Blues Festival, Blues For Food, Winthrop Rhythm & Blues Festival, Hot August Nights, The Rendezvous Rhythm & Blues Festival, and many more. Ted’s goals are simple: support and promote the blues. One of his favorite ways of doing this is by co-hosting the Blues Show on 98.9 KKZX.
Scott Higgin
The Blues found Scott in high school. Later, managing to accidently see James Cotton open for Eric Clapton, he was hooked. Scott saw soon-to-be famous Robert Cray gigging around the Spokane area, and also saw many other famous and soon-to-be famous blues artists over the years. A regular in the now-defunct Blues Heaven known fondly as the Fort Spokane Brewery in the 90’s, Scott was elected Vice-President of the Inland Empire Blues Society, and held that position for 4 years. Just a warm up for the next four years as President of that august body of blues lovers. He also did a 20 month stint as a blues show host, until a format change left him ‘homeless.’ With an opening on The Blues Show, Scott has made it his new home, and is ever-ready to spin old to new blues with the same aplomb. Despite the demise of his previous Blues program, Scott copped a “Best Blues Radio Program” “2005 Empire Award” from the Inland Empire Blues Society for his last Blues programming efforts.

Personality Bio
The Blues Show on 98.9 KKZX evolved from program director and drive time jock Dick Sheets, who worked for the station in 1988. Every weekday at 5:01 PM, Dick would play a blues song. He called it the “5:01 Blues.”

Local musician Sammy Eubanks logged in as the first “Blues Show” jock in 1989, and 1990 saw local blues musician Gary Yeoman, of Yo & de Cats fame take over the Sunday Night program. Yo played the blues every Sunday, from 10pm to Midnight. Off and on during the three years he did the show, guests would come up to the station. Of these guests, Ted Todd & Dean Davis were regulars. When Yo & de Cats left for Portland, Ted & Dean became the new Blues Show hosts.

September 20, 1992 was the first show for the pair. Over the years, Ted & Dean had a variety of blues musicians in the studio, did numerous interviews with prominent blues musicians, and made many public appearances.

Spring of 2002 saw us in our new lodgings downtown, with all new equipment in the studio. May of 2003 brought about a long awaited change. The Blues Show was moved to 7pm to 10pm on Sundays. Considering the response from our listeners, these hours are much better! The Blues Show with Ted & Dean were the recipients of the prestigious “Empire Award” given by the Inland Empire Blues Society for “Best Blues Radio Program” from 1995 thru 1998, garnering the coveted “Hall of Fame” for their efforts (3 years of ineligibility followed); “Best Blues Radio Disc Jockey” in 1996 (the only year the award was offered); and another “Hall of Fame” for “Best Blues Radio Program” from 2002 thru 2004. In October of 2005, Dean began a one year hiatus, and Scott Higgin began his tenure as co-host of the Blues Show. Ted & Scott continue to play the newest contemporary blues available!
